In 1974, the Swiss composer Francesco Hoch (*1943) created a work for the children’s choir I Piccoli Cantori della Turrita. The lyrics are based on his pedagogic work: “We stand still, looking and listening / the teachers, presidents, Dad, the TV / they whistle, they choose / we choose, we sing / you, you seated are listening to us / Sing)”. Rooted in a graphic score that permitted the children to improvise, according to Francesco Hoch, “to keep the richness of sounds, the Piccoli Cantori della Turrita carefully learnt almost for a year the needed independence of each voice within the choir”. Today, many generations later, the piece is still part of the choirs’ programme.
